The Story of Living Shrimply

At a young age, Eugene (our founder) had a small planted tank, and like any other aquarium enthusiast, kept a few colourful tetras with a basic filter and pump. Needless to say, weekly trips to a neighbourhood aquarium shop became a routine - not necessarily to buy anything, but browsing the store became a form of leisure. Throughout the years, the storeowners (Mr and Mrs Tan, an old couple), generously shared their knowledge and experience with Eugene, and it eventually sparked an interest in him.

Eugene began to invest more in his aquarium and experimented with several products and aquarium set-ups of various ecologies.

As his hobby became more elaborated, Eugene had several spare tank parts to get rid off and he started to sell them on carousel. Overtime, Eugene had so many things to sell that he discovered a market and set up Living Shrimply in 2019. A small, humble e-commerce brand on Shopee, Living Shrimply set off to provide affordable basic aquarium products and accessories.

Shortly after, Eugene's passion branched into aquascaping when he sought to build an aquarium that not only had a thriving ecology, but be aesthetically pleasing. During his interaction with several aquarium shop owners, Eugene also found that there is a huge community of aquarium-keepers who are interested in aquascaping but lack the resources and knowledge to venture further. Therefore, Living Shrimply set out serve as a resource and knowledge bridge for these enthusiasts and elevate the standard and popularity of the aquascaping community in Singapore. Aquascaping products and livestocks (such as hardscape, gravels and woods, and aquatic plants) were then incorporated as a major focus of our brand.
